Young woman from Gwinnett wins Angler Award for Lake Lanier trophy catch

A young woman from Gwinnett county won a Georgia Angler award for catching a trophy rainbow trout in Lake Lanier.

Brooke Wheeler from Snellville caught the 9 pound, 6 ounce, 28 and a half inch rainbow trout in early March and took it to be certified by Georgia Wildlife Resource Division Biologists.

The Wildlife Resource Division blog explained the significance of the catch stating that they stopped stocking the lake with that type of fish in 1990.

While a few rainbow trout are caught in the lake each year, biologists believe this large of a trout must've taken a ride down one of the lake's tributaries, like the Chattahoochee or Chestatee into the lake, likely during one of the many periods of heavy rains this winter.
