Lake Lanier: West Bank Park repairs underway

By AccessWDUN Staff

Repairs have begun at Lake Lanier's West Bank Park, which was temporarily closed in February because of safety hazards following serious flooding.

“Conditions at the park are now favorable for repairs,” said Timothy Rainey, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operations project manager for Lake Lanier. “While you may see the barricades moved and the gate open, please do not enter the park. This is only for the entering and exiting of work crews.”

In addition, lake visitors should not park outside of the gate because this could interfere with maintenance operations, Rainey said. Unauthorized vehicles parked in this area will be subject to being towed.

Repairs will be ongoing throughout the fall and winter seasons and include:

*Installation of concrete walls to replace worn-out and hazardous wooden retaining walls

*Restoration of picnic site areas from erosion

*Removal of dead, hazardous trees

*Installation of shoreline stabilization

Repairing of pump and controls for septic systems, sinkholes, and handicap access

“We appreciate the public’s patience and anticipate West Bank Park will fully reopen no later than March 29, 2020,” said Rainey. “This timeline could change as work progresses."
