A Wednesday morning crash between a Dawson County school bus and a dump truck sent a half dozen students to the emergency room with minor injuries.
Chief Danny Thompson of Dawson County Fire and Emergency Services said the accident call came in to Dawson County E911 at 7:27 a.m.
The two vehicles collided on Highway 53 East at Jack Heard Road, according to Thompson.
"The incident was initially reported as no injuries. After several minutes, several students began to complain of minor injuries at which point Dawson County Fire & EMS were dispatched at 07:44 a.m.," Thompson wrote in a press statement.
Thompson said his crew members and officials with the Dawson County Board of Education began to notify the parents of the injured students.
"A total of six students, with non-life-threatening injuries, were transported by EMS to Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Dawson County EMS obtained a total of four patient/parental refusals," Thompson said.
An additional 12 students on board the bus were transferred to another bus and taken to school.
Thompson said the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident.
