With Regions 8-A, 8-5A, and 8-6A joining in the road the playoffs, region schedules got into full force Friday night around northeast Georgia.

And there were some big matchups in every area region.

In Region 8-6A, Habersham Central and Gainesville went head-to-head with No. 8-ranked Lanier and No. 1-ranked Dacula, both of whom made the semifinals in 2018. The Raiders hung tough for three quarters before eventually falling to the Longhorns 42-22 in Mt. Airy. The Red Elephants ran into a buzz saw in the Falcons, who took a 42-7 victory in Dacula.

In Region 8-5A, Johnson played host to No. 1-ranked Buford hoping that the Wolves' may have had a letdown after last week's thrilling win over Archer. But the Wolves jumped on the Knights for 36 first-half points en route to a 56-7 win in Oakwood.

In Region 7-4A, Flowery Branch opened its region schedule taking on a tough and White County. The Falcons used another stellar defensive effort to hold off the Warriors 45-20 at home. Meanwhile, No. 2 Marist beat Chestatee 56-13 and West Hall fell to Denmark 49-0 in a pair of 7-4A showdowns.

Region 7-3A had several big matchups with Dawson County outdueling East Hall 52-34 in Dawsonville and Fannin County holding off a Cherokee Bluff upset bid 21-7 in Flowery Branch. North Hall hung tough against No. 4 Greater Atlanta Christian but the Spartans pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 45-21 victory in Norcross.

Region 8-2A saw the top four teams all playing each other on Friday with Rabun County running past a hot Banks County team 52-10 in Tiger. Union County and it's top-rated offense started slowly against Elbert County but used some big plays to beat the Blue Devils 35-14 in Blairsville.

In Region 8-3A, Jefferson continued to roll pounding Franklin County 33-0 at Memorial Stadium. Monroe Area beat up East Jackson 56-7 in Monroe and Jackson County pushed Morgan County to the end but dropped a tough 20-17 decision at Panther Stadium.

And in Region 8-A, Riverside Military Academy got back on track with a 70-6 victory over Towns County in Hiawassee while Lakeview Academy fell to Hebron Christian, 42-7, in Gainesville.

Cherokee Christian knocked off Lanier Christian 33-12.
