FLOWERY BRANCH — Cherokee Bluff is showing signs of improvement.
The second-year program outplayed and outgunned Region 7-3A foe Fannin County but couldn't win the scoreboard in a 21-7 loss at home.
The Bears (1-5, 0-2) put up 234 total yards of offense to Fannin's 155 yards and had a chance to tie the game before the half.
On the Rebels' 30-yard line, Fannin picked off a pass and scampered 70 yards for a touchdown with 40 seconds left in the first half. The score pushed the Rebels' lead to 14-0.
Jayquan Smith, who finished with 76 rushing yards and 114 receiving yards, gave the Bears some momentum when Mason Thomas hit him for a 79-yard scoring strike. The score cut the Rebels' lead in half, 14-7.
Cherokee Bluff travels to Lumpkin County on Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
