Lake Lanier: High water levels causing problems for lake dwellers, others

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

People who live around Lake Lanier are reporting plenty of problems associated with the high levels of the lake caused by heavy rains and strong winds the last few days.

Social media is awash with stories of boat docks that have broken free from their moorings; walkways to boat docks that are flooded, cutting off access by land to the structures; and, debris that continues to flow into the lake from upstream, creating boating hazards in some places.

Some people are reporting that the strong winds that followed the rainy weather tossed chairs, tables, etc. from boat docks or the shoreline the water.

The level of the lake was 1074.64 at mid-morning Sunday.  That's more than 4.5 feet higher than winter full pool of 1070.
