Residents of Lumpkin County may hear what sounds like gunfire, see military vehicles and personnel Wednesday in downtown Dahlonega, especially near North Park Street.
U.S. Army Rangers from Camp Frank D. Merrill will be using the old kindergarten property for a planned training exercise, according to a social media post by Lumpkin County Government. The location's exact address is 147 North Park Street.
The event is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and go until 5 p.m.
Blank ammunition will be fired during the exercise, so residents shouldn't be alarmed if they hear what sounds like gunfire.
"We appreciate the work our military members do to keep us safe as well as the contributions that the soldiers from Camp Merrill make to our community," said the social media post.
