A Gainesville man is facing charges for allegedly entering a home and stealing $12,000 worth of gold and silver coins, then trying to sell them at a local pawn shop.

Edwin Lamar Smith, 55, is accused of entering a home on Byers Road, off of Flat Creek Road, July 25 to steal the coins, and then trying to sell them for $200 the same day at a pawn shop on Pearl Nix Parkway, said Derreck Booth, Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman.
