A fire broke out in the Burnt Mountain Nature Preserve in Pickens County Thursday evening, but no major damage has been confirmed.
Many people in the area took to Facebook to report seeing and smelling smoke in the area.
Dawson County EMS Chief Lanier Swafford confirms crews with his department assisted Pickens County firefighters and the Georgia Forestry Commission in fighting the blaze.
The amount of acreage burned is not yet known, but Swafford said there were no structures damaged.
