Tornado hits Georgia's Navy Base

By AccessWDUN Staff

KINGS BAY NAVAL SUBMARINE BASE, Ga. (AP) A Navy spokesman says a suspected tornado left five people with minor injuries, tossed at least two passenger vehicles into the water and damaged a couple of small buildings at a submarine base on the coast of Georgia.

Camden County in Georgia's southeast corner was under a tornado warning Sunday afternoon when the possible twister struck Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base.

Base spokesman Chris Tucker said Monday the damage was contained to an isolated corner of the base. He said two sailors got knocked over as they were tying up a security boat. He says the sailors and three other people injured in the storm were treated and released from local hospitals.

Tucker says no submarines got damaged. Kings Bay is the East Coast base for the Navy's nuclear-armed submarines.
