Authorities identify victim pulled from burning van as Flowery Branch man

Authorities Friday afternoon identified the victim of a fiery South Hall crash as a Flowery Branch man.

Manuel Spear turned left, failing to yield to an oncoming tractor trailer at the intersection of Ga. 347 (Friendship Road) and McEver Road in Buford around 9:00 a.m. Friday, according to Trooper David Kraeling with the Georgia State Patrol.

Krawling confirmed that Spear is believed to be the at-fault driver at this point, though the investigation is ongoing.

Spear's van then caught fire, causing severe burns to more than 50 percent of his body before passersby were able to get him out.

At last report, Spear was in a medically-induced coma at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, also suffering from cracked ribs and a punctured lung, said Kraeling in a phone interview.
