A Hall County man is in custody after fleeing a hospital, where he would have been released to authorities on drug charges.
Donnie Lee Smith, 27, was involved in a traffic accident May 21, where authorities discovered he was in possession of $15,610 worth of drugs, said Hall County Sheriff's Sgt. Don Scalia.
That included 5.5 ounces of methamphetamine and seven grams of marijuana, along with three handguns and $1,230 cash.
Smith was taken to the hospital due to injuries he sustained in the crash, but escaped before he could be booked into the Hall County Jail.
Law enforcement tracked him down Thursday at a residence on Patterson Lane, and once again found him in possession of drugs.
Smith allegedly had in his possession: two grams of methamphetamine, 10 oxycodone pills, two oxycontin pills and one morphine pills — all worth about $720 total.
Smith is charged with eight drug-related charges related to both incidents, and two counts each of possession of a gun by a convicted felon and possession of a gun during the commission of a crime.
Scalia said no additional charges are expected at this time.
