By AccessWDUN staff
Recently, the Lumpkin County Board of Commissioners and the Dahlonega City Council came together for a joint planning retreat in Blairsville at the Union County Community Center.

According to a press release from the county, the day-long session included county and city financial briefings, discussions of possible collaborative efforts, and dialogues regarding, among other things, the reservoir management plan, the option of a shared fueling station, consideration of a combined community SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) committee, the possibility of united economic development projects, and library funding and construction.

Commission Chairman Chris Dockery says “It’s really great for the Board of Commissioners to be able to sit down with the City Council and discuss projects that will collectively make our community better.  Our relationship has strengthened in the last couple of years.  I look forward to enjoying a productive relationship for many years to come.”

Dahlonega Mayor Gary McCullough added, “We appreciate the opportunity to meet with the Board of Commissioners.  It was a very productive use of time.  We hope to use this to help move the relationship to a higher level.”

Both bodies agreed that it was a day well spent and are looking forward to similar meetings in the future.
