Banks County hires Whitmire as rec director

Banks County has hired Elizabeth Brooke Whitmire of Homer as the county's new recreation director.

Whitmire has served as recreation coordinator for the Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department since November.

Prior to that, she spent a year as athletic coordinator for Hall County Parks and Leisure Services. Also while at Hall County Parks and Leisure Services, she spent time as special events and program coordinator.

Additionally, she previously worked as a programs assistant for Oconee County Parks and Recreation, and as a park assistant for Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services.

A graduate of the University of Georgia, Whitmire is a certified youth sports administrator, and is CPR and first aid certified.

She is a member of the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association, and was volunteer chairperson for Hall County Special Olympics from 2014-2015.

The vote to hire Whitmire followed closed session to discuss personnel during a called meeting of the Banks County Commission on Wednesday.

Whitmire was hired at a salary of $45,000.
