Motorcyclist critically injured in crash during chase

CORNELIA — A Georgia State Patrol official says the motorcycle that crashed during a chase with Habersham County deputies Thursday morning had been reported stolen.

Sr. Trooper Jason Stephens of GSP Post 7 in Toccoa says Rabun County issued a lookout for the speeding red Suzuki motorcycle.

Habersham deputies then observed the motorcycle speeding southbound on Georgia 365 near Cody Road.

When deputies attempted to pull over the motorcyclist, he failed to stop and continued south at a high rate of speed.

The motorcyclist left the road at the southbound onramp from Georgia 385 near Kmart.

The motorcycle overturned several times and ejected the motorcyclist, who Stephens said was critically injured.
