CUMMING — The woman who was found dead in her vehicle in Lake Lanier on Saturday was well-known and respected in Republican circles in Georgia.

Forsyth County Republican Party Vice Chairman Carolyn Fisher said Reva Jennings was president of the Georgia Federation of Republican Women in the 1980s.

Friends told the Associated Press they think Jennings was on her was home from a GOP Christmas party at the Governor's Mansion when she died.

Law enforcement officers believe the 77-year-old Jennings accidentally drove her car off a boat ramp and into the lake at Tidwell Park. The park is located at the end of Pilgrim Mill Road in Forsyth County.
