Clarkesville, Habersham Medical issue statements on death of Greene

CLARKESVILLE — The City of Clarkesville has issued a statement regarding the death of Mayor Terry Greene. 

On behalf of the city council and herself, City Manager Barbara Kesler wrote, "We are all devastated by the tragic loss of our mayor, colleague and friend Dr. Terry Greene. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and we ask that you please respect their privacy during this difficult time." 

The statement goes on to acknowledge those who have come forward on the city's behalf. 

"Thank you for the outpouring of prayers and support," Kesler's statement reads. "We have no further comment at this time." 

Hospital CEO reflects on former chief of staff 

Habersham Medical CEO Jerry Wise also issued a statement Monday. 

"The Habersham Medical Center family is filled with unimaginable grief and sadness upon learning of the passing of Dr. Terry Greene," Wise's statement reads. "Our hearts go out to his family, office staff, patients and countless others who admired and appreciated his medical expertise and leadership." 

Wise said Greene served on the HMC medical staff for 23 years, and was chief of staff from 2012 to 2014. 

"His passing is a huge loss to our medical family, and we join the entire Habersham County community in mourning,' Wise's statement concludes.
