A Jefferson man has been arrested in connection with the death of an Athens man who was recently found dead near Nicholson.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Monday that William Austin, age 31, was arrested by agents on Friday and booked into the Jackson County Jail. Records there show he faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and tampering with evidence along with a hold from Wilkes County.
Antowne Shalmar Lay, age 29, was found dead near the intersection of Antioch Church Road and Gus Barnett Road.
Austin remains jailed as of Tuesday morning without bond.

State officials are investigating after an Athens man was found dead in eastern Jackson County recently.
A release Friday from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Antowne Shalmar Lay, age 29, was found dead near the intersection of Antioch Church Road and Gus Barnett Road just south of Nicholson. No details about the time the body was discovered or the condition it was in have been released.
The GBI was asked to investigate the death by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
