Richt likes Bulldogs' enthusiasm in day four

By The Associated Press
ATHENS -- The Georgia Bulldogs continued their preseason preparations with a two-hour session on Friday at the Woodruff Practice Fields.

"It's day four, and it was a good practice," Georgia coach Mark Richt said. "It's obvious there are a lot of guys who don¹t know what to do at least
not the way their coach wants it done but the attitude, effort, intensity and enthusiasm have been very good. That¹s important. To this point, I have been pretty pleased."

Richt said defensive lineman Geno Atkins and cornerback Prince Miller each had an interception return for a touchdown during Friday's session. He called those "the two most exciting plays when the offense and the defense were together."

Richt was asked about Logan Gray, who opened camp as the No. 2 quarterback behind Joe Cox.

"I am pleased with Logan's camp," Richt said. "He's done a nice job preparing himself. He had a great spring and he's carried that into the summer."

Richt also was asked to evaluate Marcus Washington, who has been getting work at both linebacker and defensive end.

"Marcus went to end during pass rush, inside drill and 11-on-11," Richt said. "He's starting to line up there. We¹ll see what kind of knack he has for it."

Earlier in the day, it was announced that the Bulldogs were ranked No. 13 in the initial USA Today coaches' poll. Also, it was announced that safety Reshad Jones has been placed on the watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given annually to the nation¹s top defensive back.

The Bulldogs will return to the practice field on Saturday. The annual Fans
Picture Day will be Saturday, Aug. 22, at Sanford Stadium. The Bulldogs face
Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla., on Saturday, Sept. 5. Kickoff against the Cowboys is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET, and ABC will televise the game.
