Boys soccer: Chestate, Johnson take 6-3A wins; Big Red holds off EHall

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — Class 3A fifth-ranked Chestatee kept pace for second place in region 6-3A with a tough 1-0 win over Lumpkin County on Tuesday at The Burial Grounds.

The War Eagles (7-2, 3-1 Region 6-3A) were once again outstanding on the defensive end. It was the second consecutive shutout win in region play and their sixth overall shutout in nine games so far in 2025.

Ryan Woodward recorded the win in goal with four huge saves on the night.

Denny Zamudio got the lone goal off an assist  from Diego Esquivel in the first half and the defense did the rest.

Chestatee, who is tied with Johnson for second in the standings, is off until next Tuesday when it plays host to North Hall in another Region 6-3A battle.

Lumpkin County (3-6, 1-2 Region 6-3A) plays host to White County on Friday in Region 6-3A play.

NORTH HALL 0

The Knights kept pace in Region 6-3A with their fifth shutout win of the season on Tuesday.

Johnson (6-3, 3-1 Region 6-3A) dominated the action, possessing the ball for nearly the entire match on the Trojans’ (0-5, 0-4 Region 6-3A). North Hall mounted just one counter attack on the night.

Oscar Zamora and Benjamin Villatoro combined in goal for the clean sheet win.

The Knights led 2-0 at the half on goals by Yannick Niyibigira and Martin Rodriguez. Ángel Cantero and Luis Torres each added a goal in the second half.

Yandel Castill had 2 assists and Junior Castillo had 1 for Johnson. 

Johnson is off until playing host to Dawson County next Tuesday in region 6-3A.


GAINESVILLE 2,
EAST HALL 0

The Class 5A seventh-ranked Red Elephants knocked off the rival Vikings at East Hall Stadium Tuesday night in a non-region battle.

Gainesville (9-2) got goals from Orlando Robles and Christian Perez as both defenses were tough to crack. 

Marquise Rangel registered the shutout for Gainesville.  

Gainesville next will take on third-ranked John Creeks on Friday at City Park for a battle for first place in region 7-5A.

East Hall (2-8) has lost five straight and will also jump back into region play on Friday playing host to Cherokee Bluff in Region 8-3A.
