Fundraiser for Don & Debbie Golden Scholarship Fund

GAINESVILLE - Many Hall County teachers are expected to show up in denim Wednesday.

It's part of the weeklong observance of National School Counseling Week and is part of a fundraiser for the Don & Debbie Golden Scholarship Fund.

The Goldens, both educators, were killed in a traffic accident last fall. Debbie was a counselor at Mount Vernon Elementary. Don taught marketing and coached golf at North Forsyth High School. He previously was the head football coach for six years at North Hall High School.

Wednesday will be "Debbie's Denim Day" throughout the county school system and teachers can wear denim or school colors in exchange for donating to the scholarship fund.

The Goldens' daughters estabished the fund at the North Georia Community Foundation in memory of their parents in December.

"Members of the community are welcome to help build the fund by making contributions directly to the Community Foundation for the scholarship," according to Helen Powell, Vice President, Donor Services, North Georgia Community Foundation. "Checks should be made payable to the North Georgia Community Foundation and mailed to 615F Oak Street, Suite 1300 Gainesville, Georgia 30501. Credit Card donations are possible by calling 770-535-7880 ext. 222 if donors prefer."

Powell said the Golden family hopes to be able to award a scholarship each fall to a rising college senior at the University of Georgia majoring in education. "They want to continue their parents' legacy of touching the lives of others through education for generations to come."
