Alto gets a police department

CLARKESVILLE - The Habersham County town which is the home to a state prison and has had to deal with a number of escapes over the years is finally getting a police department.

Alto's first-ever police department will be run by Robin Krockum, the assitant chief of the Demorest Police Department.

He says he plans to hire two officers for the town which is the site of Lee Arrendale State Prison.

News Channel 32 in Toccoa reports there were 22 applicants for the job of chief.
