City leaf pick-up resumes

By by Ken Stanford
GAINESVILLE - Curbside leaf pick-up - temporarily suspended in mid-December because crews were needed to clean the streets of ice storm debris - has resumed in Gainesville and has been extended into February.

The final leaf pick-ups for Zone 1 (west of Thompson Bridge Road/Green St./E.E.Butler and south of the Thompson bridge) will take place the weeks of February 6 and February 20. The final pick-ups for Zone 2 (east of Thompson Bridge Road/Green St./E.E.Butler and the area north of the Thompson bridge) will take place the weeks of February 13 and February 27.

In addition, because of the large amount of tree debris and leaves currently being stored at the Street Maintenance Division, 263 Alta Vista Road, wood chips and leaf mulch are now available for the public - free of charge, on a first-come, first-serve basis. While supplies last, from now through February 17, from 3:00-3:30 each day, Monday through Friday, there will be personnel available to load these items.

For more information, call the Gainesville Street Maintenance Division at 770-532-0379.
