Carl Romberg II dies

GAINESVILLE - Carl Romberg II, a prominent Gainesville businessman and civic leader, died Wednesday.

Romberg served as President of City Ice for 30 years and was a founder of Atlantic Dry Ice.

Romberg was a board member of SunTrust Bank of Northeast Georgia; former president of the Northeast Georgia Fair Association; past president and campaign chairman of Hall County Community Chest (now United Way of Hall County); a founding member and past president of the Northeast Georgia History Center at Brenau University; past chairman of the Gainesville Redevelopment Authority; and member of the Gainesville Planning Commission.

A lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Gainesville, Romberg served on the church's Official Board and Endowment Trust Committee, and recently served as chairman of the Building Committee.

Active in scouting, Romberg was an Eagle Scout, a Sea Scout, Scoutmaster for eight years, recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, and the Ralph Cleveland Distinguished Citizenship Award.

Romberg died Wednesday at the age of 65 following an extended illness.

Following a private graveside service, a memorial service will be held at Gainesville First United Methodist Church Friday at 11:00. (See obituary elsewhere on this site.)
