Sardis Connector work leads to traffic shift at Chestatee school cluster

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

Ongoing work on a new thoroughfare in northwestern Hall County is leading to traffic pattern shifts in the county's Chestatee school cluster.

The Hall County School District issued a statement Monday afternoon saying that work on the Sardis Connector project by the Georgia Department of Transportation will alter traffic patterns for Chestatee High School, Chestatee Academy and Sardis Elementary School.

A map released by the school shows that work is blocking a portion of Fran Mar Drive just north of Sardis Road. The blockage means that car rider traffic for Chestatee Academy will need to enter and exit the school from the access road connecting that school and Chestatee High School.

Also, Chestatee High School students exiting the school parking lot will need to turn left on the access road to exit on Sardis Road.

"The Hall County School District has worked closely with each school to develop traffic flow plans that prioritize student safety and ensure efficient arrival and dismissal procedures," the statement by the school district said. "Schools will be sending out specific details for their communities. Parents with questions should reach out to their child's school."

The Sardis Connector will be a new four-lane divided highway that will ultimately connect Dawsonville Highway, via Sardis Road, to Thompson Bridge Road. Construction on the project started earlier this year.

Classes for Hall County Schools begin on Friday, August 1.
