By Will Daughtry News Reporter

A car caught fire in a single-vehicle wreck in Banks County Sunday afternoon, leading to a fatality.

According to Banks County Fire and Emergency Services, they responded to Rock Springs Road north of Homer in unincorporated Banks County at around 6 p.m.

When they arrived, units found that a vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree, and caught fire.

The driver was identified to be a male, but no other information about him is known. He was located in the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene.

Banks County Fire Chief Steve Nichols said the curve where the wreck happened is sharp.

"There's a sharp, fairly sharp curve right there in the area where he was at," Nichols said. "It appeared like the vehicle started to negotiate the curve and never completed that turn and just went straight off the side of the road into that tree."

Nichols added that his body was taken to the state crime lab for identification.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) and the Banks County Coroner’s Office.

No other injuries were reported.
