Banks County wreck leaves three people injured, one dead

By Will Daughtry News Reporter

A two-vehicle wreck in Banks County on Wednesday left three injured and one dead according to Banks County Fire Services.

“We have multiple accidents there (Highway 441) periodically; sometimes they’re just minor but unfortunately this one took a life,” Banks County Fire Battalion Chief Scottie Mathis said.

Mathis responded to the accident with emergency and fire services around 3 p.m., where they found four people injured, with one woman in critical condition who eventually succumbed to her injuries after being transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

The other three victims also went to the hospital with injuries but were all in stable condition.

Mathis said the first thing he noticed on the scene was an overturned vehicle on its top and the other with “extensive damage.”

The speed on the particular section of Hwy 441 near Historic Homer Highway is 65 mph.

“We kept her stable all the way to the hospital,” Mathis said. He went on to explain that the injuries she suffered from being entrapped and freed from the vehicle caused her to pass away.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
