GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Nigel Newkirk turned in his third straight 100-yard rushing game to help lead Gainesville past Westlake, 42-14, on Friday at City Park.
Newkirk rushed 13 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns, including a 52-yard score to give Big Red a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
It was part of a 229-yard rushing night for the Red Elephants (3-0), who finished with 430 total yards of offense.
Junior quarterback Kharim Hughley completed 18 of his 30 passes for 201 yards and four touchdowns. He also added 42 yards on the ground and one touchdown.
Big Red took a 28-0 lead into halftime and put the game away with two scores in the third quarter — a 15-yard pass to Legend Wilmont and a 30-yard strike to Colin Porterfield.
Phillip Williams led the Gainesville with 90 yards on four catches and one TD, a 20-yard reception in the second quarter.
Westlake QB Cannon Robinson finished the night 16-of-30 with 259 yards and two touchdowns.
