Governor Brian Kemp has named a new solicitor general for Barrow County.
B. Kyle Thompson, an assistant district attorney in neighboring Walton County, was appointed to the post according to a release from the Governor's Office Thursday afternoon.
Thompson's appointment comes more than four months after Barrow County's previous solicitor general, Kyle Sharry, resigned. Barrow County officials said Sharry cited "a desire to return to his private law practice" as the reason for Sharry's resignation.
The Governor's Office said Thompson and his family live in Winder. He is a graduate of Apalachee High School and both the University of Georgia and Mercer University.
He previously served as an assistant district attorney in the Western Judicial Circuit and as an assistant solicitor general in Macon-Bibb County.
"(Thompson) has extensive experience representing the State of Georgia in cases, including all misdemeanor violations," a release from the Governor's Office said.
