A Woodstock resident who was swimming at Lake Chatuge Saturday morning drowned according to officials.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Law Enforcement Division reports that at 4 a.m. Saturday, Georgia Game Wardens responded to a possible drowning at Lake Chatuge in Towns County.

Initial reports indicated that 25-year-old Brek Lewis Green had been in a cove with a friend when they swam to their dock to go inside.

Both of them were using individual floats as swim aids. The friend tried to get Green to go inside, but he reportedly did not.

Officials report that the friend briefly went inside, and when they returned Green was missing.

Towns County Fire and EMS found Green’s float at a dock across the cove.

Game wardens began searching with SONAR and at around 11:45 a.m., they located Green in about 13-feet of water roughly 40-feet from the dock.

The victim was recovered by Georgia DNR, North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NWRC), and Towns County search and rescue dive team personnel at 12 p.m., and Green was turned over to the Towns County Coroner.
