DNR reports drowning on Lake Lanier, four BUI's over Labor Day weekend

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources said a man drowned Saturday afternoon at Bethel Park on Lake Lanier.

DNR Public Affairs Officer Mark McKinnon said Hasani Kamau Widemond, 46, of Vinings was swimming from shore back to his boat when he went under and did not resurface.

GA DNR Game Wardens, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Forsyth County Fire and Hall County Fire, responded to the drowning.

Game wardens located the victim in nearly 25 feet of water using boat-mounted sonar.

Hall County Fire’s Remote Operated Vessel and Forsyth County Fire divers recovered the victim.

One boating under the influence incident was reported in the Gainesville region. 

As of Monday morning, the DNR reported 13 total BUI's over the Labor Day weekend, four of which were in the Gainesville region.
