A crash in the southbound lane of Rice Creek Road on Thursday claimed the life of a bicycle rider.
The wreck happened at approximately 3:15 p.m. in Franklin County.
Troopers from Post 52 in Hartwell responded to the call where they determined that 58-year-old Walter Terry Strickland was travelling on a bicycle northbound on Rice Creek Road.
Strickland then traveled into the southbound lane of the road and into the path of a 2023 Chevy Silverado pickup truck driven by 65-year-old Stevie Wayne Fowler which resulted in the crash.
Strickland was then taken to St. Mary’s Sacred Heart Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
It was determined that Strickland was at fault and no charges will be taken against Fowler.
No other injuries were reported.
It is unknown at this time if impairment was a contributing factor and tests are pending.
