Immigrant reporter Mario Guevara released from Gwinnett County custody on bond

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

A popular Salvadoran national reporter covering events and protests over immigration in the U.S. has been released on bond from Gwinnett County authorities while he continues to face charges in other Georgia counties.

Mario Guevara was initially arrested June 14, 2025 in Dekalb County while livestreaming a protest in the suburbs of Atlanta and was taken into custody. A few days later on June 18, Guevara was placed in ICE custody and was ordered released on $7,500 bond on July 1. That's when he was brought under Gwinnett County charges.

A Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office press release said Thursday evening, "Mario Guevara was transported to the Gwinnett County Jail on Thursday, July 3, 2025. He was booked, released on bond, and is no longer in our custody. No further information is available at this time."

The sheriff's office added that during multiple law enforcement operations conducted by its Trafficking and Child Exploitation (TRACE) Unit—which enforces county ordinances and state laws related to prostitution, pimping, street-level narcotics, human trafficking, child exploitation,  and Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigations— Guevara allegedly compromised that department's operational integrity and jeopardized the safety of victims of the case, investigators, and Gwinnett County residents. As a result of his actions, arrest warrants were secured for the following Misdemeanor criminal offenses:
  • Distracted Driving
  • Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device
  • Reckless Driving

Reports indicate Guevara has resided in the U.S. for nearly 20 years and has authorization to work in the United States prior to this year's recent arrests and charges.

Social media posts found on Mario Guevara's page have a quote from fellow MG News reporter Alondra Madrigal indicating, "Mario Guevara continues in ICE custody after being transferred from Gwinnett County Jail to the Floyd County Detention Center."
