A man who was at large for nearly four years was arrested and placed under an immigration detainer in connection with the sexual assaults of two women.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said Jose Marino Cruz-Chavez, 43, allegedly assaulted the girls at an Oakwood home between October 2015 and October 2017.

The victims were under the age of 12 at the time, and they were known to the suspect.

After forensic interviews with the victims, investigators took out warrants on May 13, 2021, for two counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of sexual battery on a child under the age of 16.

The victims reported the crimes to a family member in 2021. The family member then informed the sheriff’s office of the crimes.

Cruz-Chavez was taken from the Gwinnett County Jail to the Hall County Jail on Friday, June 20, where he remains without bond.
