A man accused of inappropriately messaging a Duluth child was arrested in New York last month.
The Duluth Police Department posted to social media Tuesday that Oswin M. Guillen Padilla, age 41, was accused of using various social media platforms to target minors. New York State Police also issued a statement, saying they were contacted by Duluth Police once it was learned that Padilla lived in Suffolk County, New York.
"The investigation began when the victim's mother discovered numerous photos and videos involving inappropriate content and messages exchanged between the victim and Padilla," the statement by NYSP said. "Following a brief investigation, NYSP...located Padilla's current residence in Hampton Bays, NY."
NYSP officials said Padilla later confessed in an interview to using social media to "intentionally seek out explicit content from minors even when he knew their age." He now faces four counts of possession sexual performance by a child less than 16.
Padilla is currently being held in Southampton Town court awaiting arraignment on those charges in Suffolk County, New York, while Duluth Police have also issued an arrest warrant requesting his extradition to Georgia to face charges there.
"We thank New York State Police and commend (Duluth) Detective Trojahn for their swift and outstanding work," a statement by Duluth Police said. "Our department remains committed to protecting our youth - both online and offline."
