AKC Reunite, the largest non-profit pet identification and recovery service provider in the United States, recently donated a Pet Disaster Relief trailer to Barrow County.

The trailer, delivered on May 31, will act as life-saving equipment for pets in the area, able to dispatch to any disaster scene that needs assistance sheltering pets in the area. These relief trailers can house 65 pets for 72-hours after a crisis is declared, as well as carry and deliver essential items such as: an AKC Reunite universal microchip scanner, bowls, collars and leashes as well as fans, lighting and a generator, cleaning supplies and maintenance items.

These supplies are able to be used at co-location shelters, where people can evacuate with their pets, on top of serving as an emergency house for displaced animals.

“We are absolutely thrilled and honored to have received this generous donation. We have been speaking with surrounding counties to let them know that we have received this donation and we are prepared to assist anyone who is in need,” said Jaclyn Fryman, Director of Barrow County Animal Control. “The more we work together, the more we create a united group to move forward, set the highest bar for animal welfare care, and provide outstanding service.”
