GoFundMe set up for daughter of Buford couple who drowned in Florida

By Jeremiah McBurrows, Jr.

The recent drowning of a Buford couple in Destin, Florida, on May 27 left their family with heavier responsibilities, and the community is stepping up to support.

On May 27th, a Buford couple — 57-year-old Peter Nguyen and 54-year-old Sonia Nguyen (pictured above) — along with their son were reported to be struggling in the water about 75 yards off the coast.

Witnesses confirm that a bystander was able to use a boogie board to help the 26-year-old son to shore, and beach personnel were able to help the couple a short while later.

While being helped to shore, life-saving measures were taken, but were unsuccessful.

After the events, the sole caregiver for their severely disabled son and elderly mother is their 22-year-old Sara, who must carry on while managing funeral expenses, household responsibilities, and her full-time college education.

Lisa LeBlanc has started a GoFundMe campaign to assist the family during these challenging times. If interested in supporting, the link can be found here.
