A Gainesville man remains in the Hall County Jail following a domestic altercation over the weekend.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a residence on Highland Terrace just after Midnight Saturday morning to find Octavio Rodriguez-Martinez, 37, beating on the door of a residence attempting to gain entry.
Rodriguez-Martinez reportedly refused commands to stop hitting the door, prompting deputies to go to the porch to arrest him. During the arrest, Rodriguez-Martinez struck one of the deputies in the face with a closed fist. The deputy was transported to the hospital for treatment but was not seriously injured, HCSO said.
An investigation into the incident revealed Rodriguez-Martinez was involved with an argument with a woman at another residence in the neighborhood. During the argument, he punched the woman in the face. Three juveniles, aged 17, 12 and seven were at the residence at the time of the altercation. The suspect also grabbed the 17-year-old by the jaw in front of the two younger children.
Before authorities arrived at the scene, the woman and her three children had fled to the residence where deputies initially encountered Rodriguez-Martinez. Three additional people were at the home at the time, with the suspect threatening to “shoot and kill” all seven people inside the home, according to HCSO.
Rodriguez-Martinez faces the following charges:
- Battery under the Family Violence Act (FVA) for the assault on the female victim
- Simple battery FVA for the assault on the 17-year-old
- Cruelty to children in the third degree (2 counts)
- Felony terrorist threats and acts (7 counts)
- Felony obstruction on an officer
