Hearings continue for alleged Apalachee High Shooter Colt Gray

By Lawson Smith Anchor/Reporter

Alleged Apalachee High School Shooter Colt Gray attended another hearing in his case Tuesday morning.

Colt appeared virtually in Barrow County Superior Court after attorneys filed a motion for a change in venue in April. The motion claimed Colt would not be able to receive a fair trial in the county, due to extensive media coverage of the case.

During the Tuesday hearing, defense attorneys said they needed more time to gather evidence ahead of a possible plea date in October. His attorneys also said they are planning to have a psychologist speak with Colt in the near future.

Colt is accused of killing four and injuring nine others during the shooting at Apalachee High School last September. He faces 55 charges in the case, including aggravated assault, cruelty to children and felony murder.

Colin Gray, Colt’s father, also filed a change in venue for his trial, set for September 8, 2025. Superior Court Judge Nicolas Primm said that Colin would not face a Barrow County jury, but did not decide if the trial would be exported elsewhere or import a jury.

Colin is accused of allowing Colt access to the gun used in the shooting. He faces several charges, including second-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, second-degree cruelty to children and reckless conduct.

Primm did not decide if there would be a change in venue for Colt’s trial during the hearing.
