Update published 11:45 a.m. Monday:

Authorities now say it was a head-on collision that left part of Interstate 985 in Hall County blocked Monday morning.

A report from the Georgia State Patrol said the wreck happened in the southbound lanes of the interstate near Exit 20 and Candler Road/Queen City Parkway near Gainesville. Officials said a Ram pickup truck driven by Robert Jordan Breda, age 35 of Jefferson, was in the northbound lanes when it left the roadway into the grass median.

The truck then reportedly hit the cable barrier between the two sides of the interstate and went into the southbound lanes, where it hit a Jeep Cherokee driven by Greta Davidson Clay, age 58 of Gainesville. Both vehicles overturned after the collision.

Clay was taken from the scene to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with what the state patrol called serious injuries. Breda, meanwhile, was believed by authorities to be under the influence and was arrested for DUI, serious injury by vehicle and failure to maintain lane.
