Suspect and victim identified in fatal Lawrenceville shooting on Sugarloaf Parkway

The Gwinnett County Police Department has identified the victim that was killed in a shooting at in the parking lot of a McDonald's on Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville on Wednesday.

The victim in this case has been identified as Donald Stewart, 43, of Commerce. 

Michael Todd, 40, of Hoschton has been charged with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, two counts of Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony. 

Todd was Stewarts’ boss and the argument between them was work related.

As of last report Michael Todd has been booked into the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.


Update posted Feb. 19, 2025 at 5:20 p.m.:

One man was left dead after a shooting in the parking lot of a McDonald’s on Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville on Wednesday.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said officers responded to the scene at around noon where they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he died.

The shooter stayed at the scene and was arrested by officers.

Police officials said the shooter and the victim knew each other and got into an argument over something about their employment. 

The argument was an isolated incident and was not related to the McDonald’s.

The Gwinnett County Police Department (GCPD) is investigating a homicide that left one adult male deceased at 4915 Sugarloaf Parkway in Lawrenceville, which is a McDonald's. 

GCPD reports that they have an adult male in custody, and that the investigation is ongoing.

No further details have been released at this time.
