Boys 1st round playoffs: Buford, Union Co. both roll into 2nd round

​​BUFORD, Ga. — The Buford boys advanced to the second round of the Class 6A playoffs with a 78-56 win over Carrollton at The Buford Arena on Tuesday.

The Trojans (5-21) pushed the Wolves early, trailing just 15-12 after the opening period. But Buford got things going in the second.

The Wolves (24-3) used a 23-6 second quarter to run out to a 38-18 halftime lead. They extended it to 57-31 in the third quarter.

Kyle Carpenter led the way for Buford with 16 points. Ben Wilcox added 14 points and Amare Temple had 13 points for the Wolves.

Kamaree Mays paced Carrollton with 16 points. Kadan Spralling chipped in with 10 points for the Trojans.

Buford next will take on the Valdosta-Etowah winner in the second round on Saturday at The Buford Arena.

The Panthers led nearly from start to finish to advance to the second round of the Class 2A playoffs at home.

The Union County offense was on fire most of the game scoring 33 or more points in three of the four quarters. The Panthers (23-5) ran out to a 23-11 advantage after the first quarter and took a 41-27 lead into halftime. They extended it to 63-43 heading into the fourth quarter.

Houston Henry led Union with 24 points, including three 3-pointers and going 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Hayden Hughes poured in 22 points, including five 3-pointers, and Vince Mareuka had 19 points for the Panthers.

Up next for the Panthers will be the Westside-Macon-North Murray winner at home on Saturday.
