DAHLONEGA, Ga. — Bryan Richerson, who led two different teams to quarterfinal runs, was approved Monday to become the next head coach of the Lumpkin County girls basketball team.
Richerson spent the past season at East Hall as an assistant for the boys under head coach Joe Dix. But before that, he took the West Hall girls (2016) and the Monroe Area boys (2020) to the quarterfinals. He has been a head coach for 13 years, including seven years as a girls head coach.
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Richerson to our athletic department," Superintendent of Lumpkin County Schools Sharon Head said in a press release. "His commitment to student-athlete development and his strategic vision for the basketball program align perfectly with our district's values. We are confident that under his leadership, our girls' basketball team will continue to thrive and achieve new heights."
The Lady Indians finished 8-18 and 3-11 in Region 6-3A this past season with a young roster of six freshmen and sophomores and just one senior. They won a state title in 2022 and finished as state runners-up in 2023.
Richerson said he looks forward to getting the program back on track.
"I am honored to become part of the Lumpkin County community and to lead the girls' basketball program," he said. "I look forward to working with these talented student-athletes, building on their strengths, and fostering a culture of teamwork, discipline, and academic achievement."
