Fires in Forsyth County on Sunday due to lightning strikes from storms

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

Forsyth County Fire Department (FCFD) officials believe a lightning strike may have triggered a weekend house fire which heavily damaged a residence housing several priests on Sunday.

FCFD officials arrived to calls of a fire along Woodsong Trail early Sunday morning to a multi-unit home structure that was at a part of the Order of the Legionaries of Christ, a local Catholic home for 10 to 12 area priests. The FCFD's Facebook page said on Monday that the primary residence was lost due to the raging fire, but the surrounding out-buildings and smaller residences were saved.  No known injuries were reported.

The FCFD social media post says Sunday's early morning  storms throughout north Georgia made for a busy day as several lightning strikes in the area led to a series of calls throughout the morning and afternoon, including additional structure fires on Payton Road and Bridge Fair Road.
