The Jackson EMC Foundation’s board of directors recently awarded $41,000 to organizations serving Hall County and surrounding areas.
The amount is a portion of a total of $99,890 in grants awarded to various charitable organizations within Jackson EMC’s coverage area.
Hope Clinic, Inc. in Lawrenceville received $15,000 from the foundation. The clinic provides medical care to those without health insurance or limited access to care to those in Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson and Lumpkin counties.
Giving Health, Inc. and the Cottage Sexual Assault Center and Children’s Advocacy Center, Inc. each received $10,000 for their efforts. Giving Health supports individuals and families in all counties served by Jackson EMC with affordable access to healthcare services or access to virtual medical and mental health services. The Cottage Sexual Assault Center and Children’s Advocacy Center in Athens provides therapy sessions for children and adult survivors of sexual abuse and assault in all counties served by Jackson EMC.
Additionally, the Salvation Army in Gainesville received $6,000 from the foundation. The funds will allow the organization to provide emergency shelter and rental assistance for residents in Banks, Barrow, Hall and Jackson counties who are homeless or disabled or are disaster victims.
The grants are possible through Jackson EMC’s Operation Round Up program, in which over 220,000 cooperative members allow for their monthly electric bills to be rounded up to the nearest dollar amount. The program was established in 2005 and has funded $21.5 million in grants.
Jackson EMC serves Clarke, Banks, Barrow, Franklin, Gwinnett, Hall, Jackson, Lumpkin, Madison and Oglethorpe counties. Charitable organizations and individuals in these areas are able to apply for funding from the foundation here. Applicants do not have to be a member of Jackson EMC to receive funding.
