Boys basketball: GHS, Lakeview, Jefferson, EHall, Bluff, Union roll to region wins

ROSWELL, Ga. — Gainesville won its fifth straight game and kept pace with Milton in Region 7-5A with a big road win over Roswell on Tuesday.

The win kept Gainesville (16-6, 9-1 Region 7-5A) within one game of Class 5A No. 2-ranked Milton (16-6, 10-0 Region 7-5A) in the region standings.

The 7th-ranked Red Elephants used a 21-12 second quarter, paced by Jaxson Jones and Charlie Gershmel. The pair combined for 13 of Gainesville’s 21 second-quarter points as they blew open a 4-point lead into a 39-26 halftime lead.

The Hornets (11-11, 6-3 Region 7-5A) trimmed the lead to 58-47 after the third quarter, but the Red Elephants pulled away down the stretch.

Gershmel finished with 17 points to lead Gainesville. Jones had 16 points, and KJ White poured in 14 for the Red Elephants.

Trey Phillips led Roswell with 16 points.


LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 81,
ATHENS CHRISTIAN 50

The Lions dominated almost from start to finish in a stunning win over the Eagles at home.

The win for Lakeview (16-6, 8-1 GIAA District 4 4A/3A) moved them into a tie for the District lead with Athens Christian (14-5, 8-1 GIAA District 4 4A/3A).

Lakeview led 20-13 after the first quarter but outscored the Eagles 22-9 in the second and 25-14 in the third to blow it open.

The loss for Athens Christian snapped its  7-game win streak. It was the 7th straight for Lakeview.

Eli Mayfield led the Lions with 15 points. Lewis Roberts added 14 points, Kyari Burch scored 13, Tayden Ware scored 11, and Jude Ellis scored 10 for Lakeview.

Next up for Lakeview is a road trip to Bethlehem Christian on Thursday.


JEFFERSON 62,
OCONEE COUNTY 42

The Dragons kept pace in Region 8-3A with Cherokee Bluff and East Hall after a dominating home win over the Warriors on Tuesday.

Christian Hester, Clay Owen, and Dashaun Keith all had 11 points to lead Jefferson (15-5, 6-1 Region 8-3A). Josiah Morris had 10 points for the Dragons.


EAST HALL 73,
MONROE AREA 38

Jamarcus Harrison scored 21 points to lead the Vikings (18-3, 6-1 Region 8-3A) past Monroe Area at home on Tuesday.

Chasen Jones added 12 points in the win.

Jordan Richerson's seven points pushed him over the 1,000 career-point mark.

The Vikings jumped out to a `16-8 lead at the end of the first and extended the lead to 36-20 by halftime. The Vikings outscored the Hurricanes 37-18 in the second half.

Bray Langston added nine points, while Cooper Barton and Koen Bryant chipped in seven each.


CHEROKEE BLUFF 86,
WEST HALL 28

The Bears (21-2, 6-1 Region 8-3A) nailed 19 total 3-pointers, 16 in the first out, to blow out West Hall on Tuesday.

Boston Kersh led the Bears with 17 points, 15 from the 3-point line. Kersh was one of four Bears in double figures.

Connor Robinson scored 14 points, Alex Blurton scored 12, and Tyler Underwood added 11. He also dished out seven assists. Ben Craig added seven points and 10 rebounds.

Troy Smith led West Hall with 12 points. Zac Wagner added 10. 


UNION COUNTY 81, 
MURRAY COUNTY 47

Houston Henry and Vince Marevka scored 16 points each to lead the Panthers (18-4, 10-3 Region 7-2A) to the blowout win over Murray County at home on Tuesday. 

Union County had five guys in double figures. Maddox Young had 15 points, and Holden Payne chipped in 10.
