A Braselton woman is behind bars on charges of assaulting a 79-year-old man in her home over the weekend.
Melissa Ann Forrester, age 53, was arrested just after 10:00 p.m. Saturday at the home on Benefield Road in South Hall County. Hall County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson B.J. Williams said deputies got to the scene to find both Forrester and the victim injured.
"Forrester had been in a physical fight with the victim...both the victim and the suspect lived in that residence together," Williams said. "Forrester had actually broken the door to the victim's bedroom in an attempt to gain access to the victim and the two began to fight."
Williams said Forrester is accused of assaulting the man with multiple household items.
"Forrester used a dustpan handle and also one of the chairs in the kitchen to assault this 79-year-old man," Williams said.
The victim reportedly suffered cuts, scrapes and severe bruises from the assault. He was treated at the scene. Forrester was also injured in the altercation, being taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Braselton for abrasions to her face and head.
After being treated, Forrester was taken to the Hall County Jail, where she remains as of Tuesday afternoon without bond on charges including aggravated assault, trespassing and exploitation of an elderly person.
