Gas prices are creeping upward at Northeast Georgia's pumps this week.

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

The holiday is over, and so is the trend of lowering gas prices in northeast Georgia this week.

AAA of Georgia's website shows that the average price for unleaded regular gasoline statewide has creeped up one penny, to $2.90 per gallon on Monday (prices, subject to change). That increase may be just one cent above the average from last week, and from one month ago, but it is 7 cents less than the same time frame from last year.

Montrae Waiters with AAA says the increasing price in crude oil internationally is a main reason for the gasoline price increases. "Gas prices in Georgia have been nudging up since we rang in the New Year.  The main culprit appears to be a higher price for crude oil, which moved into the mid-$70's."

The average price for unleaded regular gas in Hall County sits at $2.87, as of Monday.  The highest average price for northeast Georgia can be found in Union County, at $2.97 per gallon, with the lowest average found in Stephens County, at just over $2.75. Most counties in the area are seeing an increase in their average prices to start the work week.

AAA updates fuel price averages daily at www.GasPrices.AAA.com. Every day up to 130,000 stations are surveyed based on credit card swipes and direct feeds in cooperation with the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) and Wright Express for unmatched statistical reliability. All average retail prices in this report are for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline.
