Football: Commerce-Elbert showdown moved to Tiger Stadium; kickoff 1 p.m.

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

COMMERCE, Ga. — The Commerce-Elbert County showdown that was scheduled to be played at The Granite Bowl on Saturday has been moved.

The two teams will now play at Tiger Stadium in Commerce after power outages in the Elberton area due to Hurricane Helene could not be fixed in time.

Kickoff is still scheduled for 1 p.m. this afternoon.

It is a huge Region 8-A Division 1 matchup for both teams. Elbert County (2-3, 1-0 Region 8-A D1) is tied atop the early region standings while Commerce (2-3, 0-1 Region 8-A D1) is coming off a heartbreaking 29-28 loss to Athens Academy to open region play last week.

It probably has bigger implications for the Tigers, who have a monster showdown with Rabun County (4-1, 1-0 Region 8-A D1) next week. They are trying to avoid an 0-2 start in region play for the first time since 2012.
