Despite efforts to remind drivers that kids and busses are heading back to school for the first time this fall, some drivers are not paying enough attention to this plea throughout Northeast Georgia.
Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum reports that one of their SRO's, Drew Archer was patrolling one of their schools for their first morning back was struck and injured Thursday, working at a school crossing with his patrol car displaying its lights.
A social media post by Sheriff Mangum shows her asking drivers to be mindful and cautious in watching for children and pedestrians as the school year is underway. Mangum says Archer was taken to a nearby hospital for his injuries and was later released and sent home to recover.
She reminds eveyone that there is no need to be in such a hurry that you should risk the safety and well-being of their officers, or the safety of any children heading to and from schools.
